Savitha Moorthy was born and raised in India and, after taking coursework and working in the service industry, she found herself working as a paraprofessional in a preschool classroom. In this space – working alongside little ones, their educators, and families – she found her passion for early childhood. While pursuing her degrees in education in the United States, Savitha met her husband and eventually settled in Hayward to raise her family.
Today, Savitha holds leads the work of Tandem, Partners in Early Learning as Executive Director. Tandem, a close partner of 4Cs, is a nonprofit working at the intersection of social justice and early childhood education. In this role, she is honored and humbled to work alongside a passionate, talented team on the systemic challenges facing families with young children. Her leadership at Tandem and on the Board of Directors for 4Cs of Alameda County nurtures her fierce advocacy for early childhood systems of support. She is passionate about partnering with the caring adults in a child’s life to ensure that we, together, can create the circumstances that help children learn, grow, and thrive.
While busy leading a nonprofit, she prioritizes her work on 4Cs’ board because she wants to use her knowledge, skills, experience, and expertise to serve the children and families in her community. Like many leaders in Alameda County, Savitha has long admired Renee Herzfeld for her work and service to the community and is excited to work alongside her and the 4Cs team. When not serving the community through her nonprofit leadership, you can find her spending time with her husband George, son Avi , mother Mohana, and cat Niko. In her free time, Savitha loves spending time reading and sharing her love of books with her son and other young children with a strong tea and delicious Indian snacks within reach.
