It Might Get Messy (In-Person)
September 21, 2024 @ 9:30 am - 11:30 am
We know that children learn best through play and experience access to the creative self in their early years more so than at any other time in their lives. Play is an ideal state of mind for creativity and learning. Play changes the connections of the front of the brain; it is here (the pre-frontal cortex) where critical thinking, self-regulation, empathy, problem-solving, higher-order thinking skills, and CREATIVITY take place.
In this workshop participants will:
- Examine strategies to recognize, honor, and scaffold children’s creative processes by providing an enriched environment that supports open-ended play
- Be challenged to identify and address roadblocks to embracing creativity and play in their practice or programs
- Leave with skills and knowledge to communicate the valuable learning and development that happens when children direct their own learning through play and creativity as well as practical ideas for supporting creative messy fun
