After 38 years of service to 4Cs of Alameda County, and 19 years as CEO, Renee S. Herzfeld is looking forward to her next chapter – Retirement. She plans to hand over the reins at the end of June, 2025. 4Cs of Alameda County’s mission will not change. The work will continue with a strong leadership team and Board of Directors to help guide the agency into the future.

Renee began her tenure at 4Cs of Alameda County in 1986 and has served as the CEO for the last 19 years. Renee has been instrumental in the growth of the agency, currently overseeing the work of 85 staff members, a more than $50 million budget, and three office locations. During her tenure, she helped administer one of Oakland’s largest child development centers and oversaw the creation and implementation of several crucial child care centers across the county serving teens and public servants.

More recently, Renee has helped secure $90 million in funding for Hayward Promise Neighborhoods (HPN) as the Early Learning Network Director. With Renee’s leadership, and 4Cs HPN team, thousands of families with little ones have utilized dozens of ELN supports from family navigation and play groups to accessing health care and diapers. In addition to supports for Hayward families specifically, Renee oversaw the opening of two 4Cs RISE (Resources through Interconnection, Support, and Equity) Resource Centers. Located in Oakland and Hayward, three full-time staff members help families access food, diapers, clothing, parenting support classes, school supplies, toys, books, free tax preparation and filling, free car seat installation checks, and more. These resource centers now serve hundreds of community members monthly and are a pillar of support for families in need.

As CEO, Renee has held the Chair position for California Child Care Development Administrators Association, Alameda County Early Care and Education Planning Council, and the First 5 Alameda County Commission. She is also currently a board member of the YMCA of the East Bay is a former board member of The Primary School and sits on the Thriving Families California and Fremont Family Resource Center’s Directors’ groups.
