Support for Child Tax Credit from 4Cs
This tax season the expanded Child Tax Credit is available to the families, offering up to $3,600 per child under 6 years old and $3,000 per child between 6 and 17 years old from the IRS. The credit is not a loan!
Since the American Rescue Plan increased the amount of this tax credit for children and expanded its eligibility, almost all families qualify. Even families who haven’t filed a tax return before or don’t have recent income are eligible for the full Child Tax Credit. Anyone who has a child with a Social Security number (SSN) can get it, even if they don’t have an SSN themselves.
The Child Tax Credit is for many mixed-status and immigrant families too. If your child has a Social Security Number (SSN) and you have an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN), you can get the child checks. If you don’t have an ITIN, you still have options. Learn more about the Child Tax Credit for mixed-status and immigrant families in English or Spanish.
You can still claim this credit, even if you’re not required to file taxes. Receiving the CTC will not affect your eligibility for other benefits including [SNAP, WIC, TANF, LIHEAP, Medicaid, or CHIP]. To sign up for the credit, you can use GetCTC.org, a self-service tool that’s IRS-approved.
